Turkey Talking Begins

We're pleased to announce that we've added new functionality to our GM Cards aimed at making it easier for GM's to Talk Turkey and carve out deals from the latest Trade Block action. (For more details on the GM Cards, see this post.)

To activate this option, head to your GM Card, share the information in your 'Contact' section (new) and setup your Skype preferences. Here are the meanings of each of the new settings:
Skype Sharing

None: Skype Contact buttons will not shared with anyone
My Leagues(s): Your Skype Contact buttons will be shared with GM's in any of your leagues when they view your GM Card.
All GDR Users: Your Skype Contact buttons will be shared with all GDR users when they view your GM Card.
Chat/Talk
By setting your Chat/Talk preference, you control whether Skype Contact buttons will be added to your GM card for Skype Chat (text) Skype Talk (voice) or both.

Enter your Skype user name here.
Share Status
Check this box if you'd like your Skype Contact buttons to depict your current online status, or if that information should remain hidden.

Geroge: below are the requirements right from the Skype website:

System requirements
PC running Windows 2000 or XP. (Windows 2000 users require DirectX 9.0 for video calls).
Internet connection (broadband is best, GPRS is not supported for voice calls, and results may vary on a satellite connection).
Speakers and microphone - built-in or separate.
To make video calls you’ll need a computer with at least a 1GHz processor, 256 MB RAM and of course a webcam.
We also recommend that you have at least a 400 MHz processor, 128 MB RAM and 50 MB free disk space on your hard drive.

The above requirements will not allow Windows Vista George!! With the new operating systems growing every day, I think GDR needs to get with the 2007 services man. They will soon be phasing out all the XP/2000 people so maybe GDR needs to find another service that is more widely used and Vista compatible like Yahoo or Windows Messenger.

Thanks very much for the comments.

I'm sure that with the popularity of Windows Vista and Skype, that Skype will be releasing full support for Vista in the near future. There is no reason why they wouldn't, and a quick look at the Skype user forums suggests that this is and will be the case.

As for other chat providers, we don't have any sort of exclusive arrangement with Skype what so ever. We'd really like to add options for both MSN and Yahoo! messenger, as well as any other messenging services that are suggested. However Skype was done first since they seem to have the best support for 'chat me' buttons. We looked for such buttons for other chat providers, and didn't find any. We may add a text box for a general 'other' chat application where people can enter the name of the service and their user name, but you can already do that in the 'Notes' section of the GM card. Its really the 'chat me' button that has value, and we'll add 'em (in our 'spare time') when we see them.
